Job Responsibilities & Qualifications:
Primary Function:

Plans and implements Nutrition services for the Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority (CIHA), personnel management and training, medical nutrition therapy and patient and family nutrition education to meet the standards of the CIHA and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities (JCAHO).

Education and Experience:

Education:
• At minimum an undergraduate degree in Dietetics, Nutrition or nutrition related field is required.
• Has successfully completed either a coordinated undergraduate program in Dietetics or Dietetic internship.
Certification:
• Registered Dietitian (RD) with current and non-probationary status.
Licensure:
• Licensed to practice Nutrition in the state of North Carolina (or must be able to immediately obtain).

Job Knowledge:

• Possesses clinical and theoretical expertise in the field of nutrition management and education. Has thorough understanding of educational concepts for all age groups and utilizes this to develop and implement hospital Nutrition program.
• Responsible for maintaining RD certification in good standing.
• Assumes responsibility for professional development of self and attends education programs and conferences to maintain competency.
• Must take into account diverse educational needs for various age groups, literacy levels, and cultural background.
• A working knowledge of the principles and practices of Quality Assurance and Improvement (QAI).
• Demonstrates excellent writing skills that are utilized to write policies, protocols, curriculum, patient teaching resources and other special project documentation.
• Effective reading, writing, understanding, and speaking of English are required. Proficiency in the Cherokee language is desirable.
• Possess understanding of the JCAHO standards with regards to nutritional counseling and has the ability to comply with these standards in both a hospital and outpatient setting.
• Moderate computer skills required: Word processing, spreadsheet and database management, electronic mail and internet use. Previous exposure to these types of programs will facilitate rapid familiarity with the CIHA computer based Resource/Patient Management System (RPMS).
• Valid North Carolina drivers license.
