Job Summary

Works directly with the Systems Administrator II and the Director of Information Technology in planning, designing, executing, implementing, modifying, and evaluating a wide variety of complex technical projects. Performs a variety of technical and repair functions to provide assistance and training for users of the computer system of the CIHA. Monitors problems with software and hardware and oversees the application of programs to facilitate maximum use of the systems and programs. Performs specified duties in support of all CIHA Programs. 


Job Description

  • Provides the entire CIHA computer server user community with technical support solving problems, answer questions, training, in all areas concerned with the use of desktop hardware and software.
  • Assists the Systems Administrator II with administration of the physical and virtual server environment as well as systems infrastructure (racks, power and UPS).
  • Assists the Systems Administrator II with administration of the Network Attached Storage arrays (NAS) and Storage Area Network appliances (SAN).
  • Assists the Systems Administrator II with administration of the Email server, email clients and distribution groups.
  • Works with Security Administrator to manage Active Directory settings.
  • Works with the Network Administrator to maintain internal and external network connectivity as well as DNS records.
  • Assists the Systems Administrator II with planning, designs, implements, monitors, and the methodologies and actions within his/her assigned area, to determine application efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assists the Systems Administrator II with feasible and economically sound problem resolutions/system improvements.
  • Assists the Systems Administrator II with the evaluation, recommendations, and purchase of new equipment and software.
  • Assists the Systems Administrator II with the analysis of server needs and contributes to design of server and application architecture, integration, and installation.
  • Assist with network security of servers and shared folders.
  • Assist with administration of group policy and active directory.
  • Evaluates server hardware and software requirements and capabilities and makes recommendations to the Director of Information Technology.
  • Assists the Systems Administrator II with the configuration, price and specifications Server Equipment and software as needed.
  • Assists the Systems Administrator II with the installation and maintenance of server hardware and software, including servers, peripherals, and wiring.
  • Assists the Systems Administrator II with maintaining around the clock support processes for all facets of server systems, system patches (including Operating systems, applications, Exchange, etc.), backup appliances, and SANs.
  • Assists in the movement or relocation of computer and server hardware.
  • Assists in communicating CIHA needs to outside consultants or programmers as needed.
  • Assists the Systems Administrator II with the backup inventory of server equipment as deemed necessary to ensure continuous operation of the computer systems of CIHA.
  • Performs preventative and routine repair service to servers including cleaning, upgrades, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Performs technical work or systems using appropriate precautions as to not cause damage to computer equipment of the CIHA.
  • Stays abreast of rapidly changing technology and assists in determining what future changes should be incorporated into computer systems of CIHA.
  • Performs technical work on business application using appropriate precautions relating to data entry, following approved policies and procedures, and maintaining all regulations relating to Personal Health Information that includes HIPAA.
  • Performs all duties according to established safety guidelines and CIHA policies.
  • Installs or assists other service personnel in installation of hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, and disk drives on users’ premises.
  • Provides updates, status, and completion information to the Systems Administrator II, IT Director, other IT employees, and end users via email, voice, or other personal communication.
  • Visits vendors to learn about available products, enhancements, or services.
  • May be necessary to work when Administrative Leave is granted, if patient care would be compromised.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education/Experience/Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science required.
  • Three years of experience in Information Technology field required with preference given to candidates within a hospital environment.
  • Two years of experience with Virtualization technologies required.
  • One year of experience with SAN/NAS Administration required.
  • One year of experience with Microsoft Exchange Server 2012 or above required.
  • Experience with Microsoft WSUS and/or SCCM preferred.
  • Experience with Endpoint Protection Administration preferred.
  • Experience with Windows 2008 and newer Server Administration including all components such as IIS, DNS, Active Directory Group Policy, File and System Security and Windows preferred.
  • Virtual Infrastructure Certification is preferred.This includes and not limited to VMWare, HYPER-V, Citrix Certifications.
  • Microsoft MCSA certification preferred.
  • Microsoft MCSE Exchange Certification preferred.
  • Must have experience working with concepts and technologies of Information Systems.
  • Must have experience with maintenance and patch deployment.
  • Must have experience with configuration and maintenance of Application, Database, File and Print Servers.
  • Must possess excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Must possess a Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
